The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Osun Youth Development Commission Establishment Bill 2020.

The bill was unanimously passed by the OSHA on June 3, 2020 after scaling third reading, according to Bukola Idowu, Coordinating Director of Osun Youth Agenda Hub, in a statement on Monday.

It is set to be transmitted to Governor Gboyega Oyetola for assent.

Lauding the passage of the bill, Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) recognized the unwavering support of Osun lawmakers towards youth development as it acknowledged the effort of the Rt. Hon Speaker Timothy Owoeye “for taking the bull by horns and sponsored the bill, Osun Youth appreciates Rt. Hon, Speaker’s continued effort towards youth development in Osun State.”

“Osun Youth Agenda campaign team led by Kimpact Development Initiative recall that Governor Gboyega Oyetola referenced the Youth Development Commission Establishment bill in his speech at the 2nd edition of the Osun Youth Agenda Policy Dialogue on Thursday, January 23, 2020.

“Governor Oyetola stated his readiness to respond to the Osun Youth request presented at the 1st edition of the OYA policy dialogue for the establishment of the Osun Youth Development Commission.

“It is now time for Governor Gboyega Oyetola to demonstrate his commitment towards youth development in Osun State by assenting to the bill as soon as the house transmit same to his office. We believe this commission will provide leadership in the setting of priorities and direction for all youth promotion and developmental programs and activities. It will enhance youth-centered policies and developmental plans.

“The commission will encourage and enhance state-wide active participation of youth in all governmental and non-governmental programs, projects, and activities affecting them. It will be a forum to harness and develop full potential of the youth as partners in Nation-building, this we believe, will, in turn, become an asset for Osun State,” the statement reads.

KDI appreciated all stakeholders and the Osun Youth Agenda campaign technical committee and Local Government Hub volunteers for their efforts thus far.

“We cannot but thank the National Democratic Institute (NDI), the United States for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom Agency for International Development (UKAID) for their unwavering support on the implementation of the first phase of Osun Youth Agenda advocacy,” it said.
