Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has been disqualified from contesting in the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming Edo governorship election.
The committee said they cannot authenticate Obaseki’s West Africa School Certificate ( WASC ) and National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC ) certificate.
Apart from governor Obaseki, two other aspirants are Chris Ogiemwonyi and Pius Odubu.
Obaseki was said to have been disqualified because of discrepancies that were noticed in his Higher School Leaving Certificate and National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC ) certificate which the committee claimed were not known to the law in Nigeria.
The committee also accused him of filing a suit against the party and the National Chairman in violation of the party’s constitution.
The seven man screening committee led by Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, said the report is conclusive, adding that all members of the pabels signed the report.
“According to the committee Chairman, Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, Obaseki’s Higher School Certificate (HSC) is defective and that the authenticity of his NYSC discharge certificate cannot be ascertained.”
Obaseki had recently asked the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, to stay away from the party’s governorship primaries in Edo State, even as he explained why he visited the party’s national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Addressing newsmen after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, he denied secretly obtaining the nomination and expression of interest forms of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following his face-off with Oshiomhole.
